Astrological Reading: “Will I Win the Lottery?”

Many people ask me to cast a horary astrology chart about the lottery, specifically to assess their chances of winning. Usually, these horaries come streaming in when the lottery jackpot is unusually large.

As an example of the applications of horary astrology to the lottery, below is a horary reading I did a few years ago for a woman who wished to know whether she would win the jackpot in a particular lottery drawing. She had been told by a psychic several years prior that she would win the lottery someday, and now was asking me whether this was it. The horary horoscope below describes her situation and the outcome very well (this analysis was published with her permission).

Horary Astrology Question: Will I Win the Lottery?

The woman is described by the ruler of the first house of self, the Sun, and her co-ruler, the Moon. The lottery jackpot is represented by the fortunate 11th house, which represents money from the king, or money from above. How is the jackpot? Very good, as it is represented by Mercury in Gemini, its own sign. Mercury gets an extra boost due to its location in the benefic 11th house. Now, Mercury is combust (within 8.5 degrees of the Sun), which is normally a serious affliction. However, planets in their own signs tend not to be affected by the Sun, and that appears to be the case here.

So we know that there is a very large amount of money at stake. What’s going on with the woman? She is obviously deeply interested in winning this jackpot; the Sun is in Gemini, where it is in the sign of Mercury, the jackpot. She is deeply invested in winning the lottery. But will she win?

To predict a lottery win, we would need to perfection as defined in horary astrology: an applying aspect between the planets representing her and the money, and ideally, some amount of reception, so that the money reciprocates her intense interest.

Mercury, significator of the lottery jackpot, is in its own sign, Mercury, where it has little interest in either the Sun or the Moon. So this is one hint that she is not likely to win the lottery at this time; the money does not care for her. The Moon is not making an applying aspect to Mercury, and in fact is making an applying conjunction to a very nasty Mars in Cancer (the sign of Mars’s fall), so this is another piece of evidence showing she will not win. The Sun has just separated from a conjunction with Mercury: unless the woman has already won the jackpot, which she hasn’t, she will not win in this lottery drawing.
